St. Paul, Minnesota
Collaborative Design Group completed initial planning and schematic design to reuse historic buildings at Fort Snelling’s Upper Post for the Upper Mississippi Academy, a school that would hold 1,382 preK-12 students upon completion. The campus would include student common areas, dining, kitchen, classrooms, outdoor learning labs, and administrative and support areas. The Student Commons Building was designed to be the only new structure on the campus. The design featured a timber frame structure and would house the kitchen and dining facility for 6th-12th grades. In addition, the building includes large seminar spaces for school and community use, as well as a Teaching Kitchen that opens into the Edible Schoolyard garden spaces and outdoor learning labs.
